Church Bridal Shower

Friday, 7 Sept 07, Mrs. Carol Rehm and her lovely daughters threw a spectacular bridal shower for Abby, dear. There were over 65 girls of various ages present at the event.

And one young man...little Joseph Pena made a guest appearance, much to the delight of the baby holding crowd! He has grown up so much! And so handsome...

When the ladies came in, they were encouraged to sign this keepsake photograph mat by the ever smiling Anna Rehm. Sasha Duncan, the assistant decoration coordinator for the shower and chief coordinator for the actual wedding came up with this terrific idea. All the decorations for the shower were so "together." The decor centered around candles in dark red or clear glass containers. I'm in awe of the gifted folks that can put these kind of decorations together. I wish I had more photos of the actual decorations. I had to fire my event photographer. She only got people pictures.

The first thing we did was play a game called, "How well do you know Abby and Caleb?" Abi Rehm came up with 10 questions designed to stump all but their closest friends and family. Abby won the "How well do you know Caleb?" portion beating out his mother and sisters by one point. That is as it should be! I won the "How well do you know Abby?" section tying with Alatheia Larsen.

The attentive audience...
Mrs. Beasley and I sang a modified duet version of Sunrise, Sunset, and then the ladies were asked to share wifely advice with Abby. Many of them shared their blessings with her at that time too. These ladies are rich, and Abby gained many valuable nuggets of God's wisdom from listening to their sound counsel.
Here is a sampling...
Teresa Stangl shared from Neh 8:10 The joy of the Lord is your strength...
Jean Wulbecker drew Abby a picture with her and Caleb in the middle surrounded by the Lord taken from Ps 125:2. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore.
Sherry Haijsman counseled Abby to adapt her life to her husband. God uses our submission to sanctify us. Ps 90:12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Angela Emrich asked God to give Abby eyes to see life as He does and to have a grateful heart.
Timeka Larsen shared her blessing for Abby...A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband. A crown causes others to look up to your husband and gives him honor.
And on and on...the sharing time ended too soon. That is my favorite part of any gathering with these ladies. I so want them to pour their accumulated wisdom into my daughter's life.
Annette Beasley poured out her heart to her future daughter-in-law in the devotional using several interesting visuals to help her remember never to nag and to always remain faithful to her husband.
We ended the evening with delectable treats and opening the many gifts. The ladies did such a good job of staying with practical items. Thank you very much. Abby had uses for everything and room to put it all away! (That's a miracle!) When you stop in to visit, open up the kitchen cupboards. They look like something out of a Better Homes and Garden's feature on how to organize your kitchen!
Special thanks go to all who helped with the shower by organizing, decorating, sharing from their lives, providing food, running the kitchen, cleaning up etc. These functions are such a joy to participate in because the Body of Christ comes alongside and takes up all the slack by lending a hand in every possible way. Abby was very blessed.
